Confluence free trial: how long it lasts and what happens when it ends

A Confluence Cloud trial, in short, from Atlassian's own pages:

How long is the Confluence free trial?

Atlassian's general Cloud billing docs and licensing FAQ say a Standard trial is 14 days and a Premium trial 30 days, and Enterprise can also be trialed for 30 days. Atlassian's pricing page currently says "a 7-day free trial of our Standard or Premium plan", so the pages disagree; check the trial end date in admin, if one is shown. If you move from Standard to Premium on a monthly subscription, the Premium trial runs 30 days plus the rest of your next billing period.

All read 22 October 2026, except Free's 2 GB, from Atlassian's storage page read 21 October.

Do you need a credit card for the Confluence trial?

When you move from Free to Standard or Premium, Atlassian's billing docs say it won't charge you until the trial ends and ask you to add payment details before the trial ends to keep the paid plan. Its licensing FAQ says that when a trial expires you keep using the product by adding a credit card. None of the pages we read say whether a card is needed to start a trial, though the FAQ's "if you choose to not add a credit card at the end" of a Standard trial suggests it isn't.

What happens when the Confluence trial ends?

If you don't add a card by the end of a 14-day Standard trial, Atlassian's licensing FAQ says the site is automatically downgraded to Free. Atlassian's cloud licensing page says that after the 14-day trial you're billed for Standard unless you cancel. If you moved from Standard to Premium on a monthly plan, Premium stays on your monthly renewals after its trial unless you downgrade back to Standard. The pages we read don't say what happens at the end of a Premium trial started from Free without a card. Atlassian's licensing FAQ offers a full refund during the first month of paid service after the trial, and no refunds or exchanges after that first paid month.

If more than 10 people use the site, a downgrade to Free isn't a clean fallback: Atlassian's billing docs say you switch back to Free by reducing your user count to 10 or fewer, and the pages we read don't explain how an automatic downgrade handles a bigger site.

Two things to know before you rely on a trial site: Atlassian's licensing FAQ says it doesn't provide data backups for trials, only for monthly and annual subscribers, and its cloud licensing page says that after a trial site is unsubscribed, its data is kept for 15 days, against 60 days for paid sites.

What the Free plan allows after a trial

Atlassian's billing docs say Free plans are available for up to 10 users, adding more users automatically moves you to a Standard trial, and you can switch back to Free at any time by reducing your user count. Free also includes 2 GB of storage. What else Free leaves out is on our Confluence Free plan limits page, and what Standard and Premium cost after a trial is on Confluence pricing.

How to end or cancel a Confluence trial

To stay on Free instead of a trial you started from Free, Atlassian's billing docs say you end the trial from Subscriptions in admin. The Atlassian pages we checked don't describe extending a trial. Data Center trials are separate: Atlassian says you request a trial license from your account representative or Atlassian staff.

Trying an alternative instead

If you're trialing Confluence to compare it with something simpler, you can also see your own pages in Tablewide, a hosted wiki built on Docmost, at one flat price per company with unlimited users, from $49 a month (Team, 25 GB). If your company is outside the EEA, UK and Switzerland, get a free preview of one Confluence space from a Confluence export: private, no card, and the preview and your upload are deleted 7 days after it's created unless you subscribe (what we keep, and for how long). If your company is in the EEA, UK or Switzerland, use the form and don't upload an export.

Tablewide is an independent service. We are not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by Docmost, Inc. or the Docmost project.

Organizations in the EEA, UK or Switzerland: please use the form and don't upload an export. We'll email you an offer to build your preview from your public pages (our AI agents read those pages to write it, and what they read can stay in their working records with our AI provider; nothing is built on our servers until you say yes), or tell you if that isn't possible (preview terms).
